  • Employee and Cast Member chronic/terminal illness

These services are available 24/7 on an unlimited basis by calling 1-800-952-6676 and selecting the prompt for HR managers and area leaders.

Management Referrals

In some cases, further steps may be necessary beyond consultation, and a Management Referral is warranted. The EAP is a significant support tool for managers who have employees or Cast Members with performance or other issues.

Your employee assistance consultant (EAC) can assist you with one of the following referral types:

  • Informal referral – When an employee or a Cast Member comes to you with a personal issue
  • Formal referral – When you have documented a job performance decline over a period of time and, despite your efforts, the employee or Cast Member has not been able to turn around their performance

Here are the steps you should take to submit a formal referral:

  • Consult your Human Resources department – Make sure you understand and follow your company’s policies and procedures.
  • Set up a consultation – Call the EAP to review the concerns you have about the employee’s or Cast Member’s performance and develop a plan to address your concerns.
  • Make the referral – The EAC will review the process with you, including the release of information (ROI), the follow-up process, and more.
  • Talk to the employee or Cast Member – Review the Management Referral process with the employee or Cast Member and provide step-by-step instructions for them to follow.

An EAC will contact the EAP health care professional who will review the reasons for the Management Referral. They will then assess the employee’s or Cast Member’s situation, problem-solve, and discuss recommendations. The EAC will provide updates on the employee’s or Cast Member’s compliance with:

  • Keeping and attending EAP appointment(s)
  • Following EAP recommendations (if applicable)

Once the EAP has contacted an employee or a Cast Member, review all your performance expectations with that employee or Cast Member. Continue to offer feedback on both their successes and areas for improvement, and intervene immediately if you see any change in performance.

Remember that an EAC is available to you for further consultation, if needed.

The ROI form is only to be used by an Employer Representative who is initiating a formal EAP Management Referral for an employee or a Cast Member. It only allows the Cigna Healthcare EAP to report employee or Cast Member EAP attendance and compliance information to the specified Employer Representative.
